Pre-Hike Gear Rundown: The Whole Kit and Caboodle

What I'll be wearing

Here are the items that I carry on the front of me, whether in my hipbelt pouches, on my should straps, or in my hands (i.e., not in my pack). Basically stuff I need relatively easy access to. From left to right:

My first aid and personal hygeine stuff


In no particular order but roughly from top to bottom:

- Repair kit with extra guylines/tape/needles/pins/thread (2.8 oz)

- Dr. Bronner's Soap (1.3 oz)

- American Paper Tissue Coreless Roll (2.5 oz)

- Wysi Wipe Reusable Singles (1.8 oz) (to wash face, etc.)

- Body Glide (1.5 oz)

- Leukotape for hot spots and blisters (0.7 oz) (acts like moleskin but I find it sticks better; works like a charm)

- travel toothbrush (0.4 oz)

- Colgate small tube (0.8 oz)

- Homemade first aid kit (advil, benadryl, immodium, band-aids, neosporin, ear plugs) (3.5 oz)

Cooking and water system


From left to right:

- Zpacks bear bag hanging system to keep food away from animals (3.3 oz)

- Aloksak odor-proof bag to keep vermin away (1.2 oz)

- Stove fuel bottle for Denatured Alcohol (1.4 oz)

- Trail Designs Sidewinder Ti-Tri alcohol stove and windscreen/pot holder (2.0 oz)

- Mini-Bic lighter (0.4 oz)

- REI Multi Towel Lite (0.8 oz)

- small piece of green scotch pad (0.1 oz) (shown on top of towel)

- GSI Outdoors Infinity Mug for my morning coffee while eating breakfast (2.4 oz) (a luxury item)

- GG Long-Handle Bamboo Spoon (0.4 oz)

- Evernew Titanium UL Pot 900ml (3.7 oz)

- Penta water bottles x2 (1.5 oz ea.) (needed wider ones than the ubiquitous Smartwater bottles, which always fell out of my side pockets when I leaned over)

- Platypus Platy Water Bottle 70 oz. for carrying extra water when needed (1.3 oz)

- Katadyn BeFree Collapsible Water Filter (2.2 oz)


 

Everything together, laid out, except the Nemo Switchback sleeping pad, which I had put to the side and forgot about (the orange thing in the photo with my tent and sleeping quilt).


 

Everything packed away except the clothes I'll be wearing (in front of pack) and food (not pictured). Also, I forgot to attach my Nemo Switchback sleeping pad (the orange thing in the photo with my tent and sleeping quilt). It attaches to the outside of the pack near the bottom where those loops are.
